What cookies and localStorage are
Cookies are small text files that your browser saves on your device. The browser sends them back to the server with subsequent requests, which lets a site remember, for example, your chosen language.
LocalStorage is a separate browser storage mechanism. Data saved in localStorage stays solely on your device and — unlike cookies — is never automatically sent to the server with any request. This distinction matters in practice on this Website: most settings are stored in localStorage, not in cookies.
What the Website uses
The Website uses no analytics, advertising, or tracking tools. It saves only three items on your device itself — one cookie and two localStorage entries — all of them functional:

The NEXT_LOCALE cookie is set from your first visit. The haumiau-consent entry is created only after you click one of the banner buttons, and theme only after you first use the theme toggle; if you never use them, these entries are never created at all. The Website stores no data in sessionStorage.
The cookie banner — what your choice means
On your first visit, an information banner appears at the bottom of the screen. Clicking "Accept" or "Essential only" does exactly one thing: it saves your decision in the haumiau-consent entry and hides the banner.
Because the Website currently uses no analytics or marketing cookies, both choices lead to the same scope of stored data today — limited to the items listed in the table above. Embedded content (the Google map, YouTube videos) loads independently of the banner decision — only at the moment it appears on your screen. If the Website starts using analytics tools in the future, this policy will be updated.
Third-party embedded content
- Google Maps — the "Contact" page and the Website footer embed a directions map (a frame from the google.com domain). It loads only when it enters the visible area of the window. Within its own frame, Google may set its own cookies according to its rules — from the Website's side we have no visibility into exactly which files are stored there.
- YouTube videos — selected blog articles embed videos from the youtube-nocookie.com domain (privacy-enhanced mode). According to Google, in this mode YouTube does not store cookies until you start playing the video; once playback begins, YouTube may store data in accordance with its policy.

How to manage cookies and localStorage
In the settings of every popular browser (Chrome, Firefox, Safari, Edge) you can view and delete cookies, block them from being saved — including selectively, per site — and clear site data, which also covers localStorage. You will find the relevant options in the privacy section; detailed instructions are provided by your browser's maker.
Deleting the data saved by the Website has small, predictable effects: after removing NEXT_LOCALE the language version will be determined afresh, after removing haumiau-consent the cookie banner will appear again, and after removing theme the display theme will return to your system settings. The Website remains fully usable even with cookies blocked entirely.
Changes to this policy
If the technologies the Website uses change, we will update this document. The current version is always available at this address.
